주님께 드리는 삶이 복되다 대상 29:10-14
주님께 드리는 삶이 복되다.
옛날의 자녀들은 부모를 기쁘시게 해 드리기 위해서 공부도 하고 성공도 하려고 했다.
그럴 때는 자녀들의 마음에 안정감이 있었고 그래서 힘들고 어려워도 참고 이길 힘이 있었다.
그러나 오늘날 자녀들이 오직 자기를 기쁘게 하는 삶을 추구하면서 삶의 목적이 없고 마음의 안정이 없고 힘들고 어려울때 참지 못하고 이기지 못한다.
신앙생활도 마찬가지다.
옛날에는 주님을 위해 살고 주님을 위해 죽는 것이 목적이었다.
그 때는 감사해서 울고 감격해서 울었다.
때로는 좀 더 주님을 위해 살지 못하고 충성하지 못하는 것이 죄송해서 눈물을 흘렸다.
자연히 어려움이나 불편한 것을 참고 이길 힘이 있었다.
그러나 오늘날 자기의 기쁨과 만족을 추구하며 신앙생활 하려고 하는 시대가 되면서
오히려 불평만 많아지고 조그마한 어려움도 불편함도 참지 못하고 이기지 못한다.
우리 신앙생활의 초점은 위에 계신 주님께 맞추고 주님께 드리는 삶을 살아야 한다.
다윗은 주님께 드리는 삶을 살았다.
그런 다윗의 삶이 얼마나 복된 삶이었는지를 우리는 알고 있다.
다윗 자신만 아니라 그의 가문이 복된 가문이 되었다.
역사상 다윗의 가문은 가장 유명한 가문이요 영적 육적으로 가장 축복된 가문이 되었다.
다윗이 주님께 드리는 삶을 어떻게 살았는지 그가 어떤 복을 받았는지 말씀하려고 한다.
1. 주님께 마음을 드림이 복이다.
삼하 7:2 왕이 선지자 나단에게 이르되 볼지어다 나는 백향목 궁에 살거늘 하나님의 궤는 휘장 가운데에 있도다
하나님께서 다윗을 왕으로 삼으시고 주의의 모든 원수를 정복하고 왕궁에 편하게 살게 하셨을 때 다윗은 하나님의 전을 지어 드리고 싶어서 나단 선지자에게 말했다.
“나는 이 백향목 궁에 살고 있는데 하나님의 법궤는 천막 가운데 있도다.”
이 말 가운데서 그가 얼마나 하나님을 사랑하고 경외하는 지를 볼수 있다.
우리가 하나님을 정말로 사랑하면 이렇게 된다.
우리 집을 꾸미면서도 하나님의 집은 어떤가를 생각한다.
내 집 화단에 꽃 한 포기를 심으면서도 하나님의 집 뜰은 어떤가?를 생각한다.
나는 좋은 집에 사는데 하나님의 전은 퇴락하지 않았는가?
이것이 사랑이다.
여러분, 혹시 그런 생각을 해 본 적이 있는가?
나단 선지도 다윗의 말을 듣고 무척 기뻐했다.
모세를 통하여 성막을 세운지 500 여년 동안 그 누구도 생각조차 하지 못한 일이다.
당연히 법궤는 휘장 가운데 있는 것으로만 생각해 왔었다.
그런데 다윗이 하나님을 위한 집을 짓겠다고 하니 나단 선지자는 너무 감동이 되어서 미쳐 하나님께 물어보지도 않고 “여호와께서 왕과 함께 계시니 왕의 마음에 있는 것을 행하소서 ” 했다.
그러나 그 밤에 하나님께서 나단 선지에게 말씀하시기를 다윗은 나를 위하여 집을 지을수가 없다 고하셨다.
그러나 하나님은 다윗이 그런 마음을 가지고 있는 것을 기뻐하셨다.
대하 6:8 “여호와께서 내 아버지 다윗에게 이르시되 네가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있으니 이 마음이 네게 있는 것이 좋도다.”
“이 마음이 네게 있는 것이 좋도다.”
하나님을 위하여 우리가 무엇인가 해 드리려고 할 때 그 마음을 하나님이 기뻐하신다.
여러분도 정말 주님을 사랑해서 무엇인가 해 드리려고 할 때 주님이 기뻐하시는 것을 체험한줄 안다.
“그래 네가 그 마음을 가지는 것이 좋다”
“네가 피와 땀이 묻은 그 물질을 나를 위해 드리려고 하는 마음이 네게 있는 것이 좋다.”
“네가 자존심을 꺾고 형제의 손을 잡으려고 하는 그 마음이 네게 있는 것이 좋다.“
“네가 안정된 삶을 포기하고 나를 위해 고난의 길을 걸으려고 하는 그 마음이 네게 있는 것이 좋다.”
신앙생활 하면서 좀 이런 감동을 받아야 하지 않겠는가?
* 하나님이 기뻐하시면 좋은 것을 주신다.
하나님께서 다윗의 마음을 기뻐 받으시고 귀한 은총을 약속해 주셨다.
다윗 개인을 위해서만 아니라 그 나라를 위해서, 그리고 후손을 위해서 영원한 은총을 약속하셨다.
지금껏 모세나 그 누구에게도 하지 않은 놀라운 은총의 약속이다.
그래서 삼하 7장을 “다윗 언약의 장” 이라고도 한다.
다윗에게 약속하신 것은 내가 이미 너를 양 치는 목동에서 이스라엘의 주권자를 삼았다.
그런데 내가 너와 항상 함께 하여 네 이름을 존귀하게 해 주겠다고 하셧다.
하나님의 약속대로 오늘까지 다윗의 이름은 너무도 존귀하다.
이스라엘 나라를 위해서도 은총의 약속을 하셨다.
다윗은 왕으로서 당연히 국가와 민족의 장래를 염려하지 않을수 없었다.
그런 다윗에게 하나님은 내가 이 나라를 견고하게 해 주겠다고 약속하셨다.
다윗의 후손에 대해서 귀한 은총을 약속하셨다.
“내가 너를 위하여 집을 세우리라.”
물론 이 집은 다윗의 가문을 뜻한다.
하나님의 집을 짓기 소원했던 그 마음을 얼마나 기뻐하셨으면 이제 하나님이 다윗을 위하여 집을 세우겠다고 약속하시는가?
그래서 역사상 다윗의 가문이 제일 명문가, 제일 축복된 가문이 되었다.
네 자식이 왕위를 이을 것이요 그는 나를 위하여 집을 건축할 것이요 나는 그 나라 위를 영원히 견고케 하리라
나는 그의 아비가 되고 그는 내 아들이 되리라. 당시로서는 하나님이 아버지가 되신다는 것은 생각도 할수 없는 일이엇다. 다윗의 후손을 위하여 이런 엄청나고도 다정한 은총을 약속하셨다.
그러므로 만약 그의 후손들이 범죄하면 사람 막대기와 인생 채찍으로 징계하겠으나 내 은총을 영영히 거두지는 아니하리라 하셨다.
아버지니까 당연히 아들이 잘못하면 징계할 것이다.
징계도 아버지의 사랑 때문이다.
아들이기 때문에 징계는 하겠으나 결코 버리지는 않는다.
다윗왕국이 영원하리라는 말씀이 메시야를 통해서 성취될 것을 누가복음에서 예수님의 탄생을 예고하는 천사를 통하여 말씀하고 있다.
눅 1:32-33 “저가 큰 자가 되고 지극히 높으신 이의 아들이라 일컬을 것이요 주 하나님께서 그 조상 다윗의 위를 저에게 주시리니 영원히 야곱의 집에 왕노릇 하실 것이며 그 나라가 무궁하리라.
다윗왕국은 다윗의 자손으로 오신 메시야를 통해서 영원무궁히 견고하게 서게 되었다.
그 나라는 영원무궁한 하나님의 나라, 하나님의 은총의 나라다.
이 언약은 너무 위대한 것이어서 이스라엘의 꺼지지 않는 소망의 등불이 되어 왔다.
신약이 “아브라함과 다윗의 자손 예수 리스도의 세계” 라고 시작되는 것을 본장의 언약을 통하여서만이 이해할수 있다.
다윗은 너무도 감격해서 이렇게 기도했다.
삼하 7:29 “이제 청하건대 종의 집에 복을 주사 주 앞에 영원히 있게 하옵소서.
주 여호와께서 말씀하셨아오니 주의 종의 집이 영원히 복을 받게 하옵소서“
우리도 정말 하나님이 감동받으실 만한 것을 해 드리기를 원한다.
우리가 하나님께 무엇인가를 드리려고 할 때 하나님이 그 마음을 기뻐 받으시고 이렇게 축복하실 것이다.
2. 주님께 물질을 드림이 복이다.
대상 22:14 “ 내가 환난 중에 여호와의 성전을 위하여 금 십만 달란트와 은 백만 달란트와 놋과 철을 그 무게를 달수 없을만큼 심히 많이 준비하였고 또 재목과 돌을 준비하였으나”
다윗은 마음만 드린 것이 아니라 실제로 많은 물질을 드렸다.
“환난 중에‘ 드렸다. 그는 전쟁을 하면서도 여호와의 성전을 위하여 금과 은을 드렸다.
전쟁에서 승리할 때마다 전리품을 구별하여 성전 건축을 위하여 드렸다.
우리가 주님을 위해서 무엇인가 드리려고 하면 드릴 것을 주신다.
그는 전리품만 아니라 자기 자신의 사유 재산에서도 많이 드렸다.
29:3 –4 “성전을 위하여 준비한 이 모든 것 외에도 내 마음에 내 하나님의 성전을 사모하므로 내가 사유한 금 은으로 내 하나님의 성전을 위하여 드렸노니 곧 오빌의 금 삼천 달란트와 순은 칠천 달란트라.”
다윗은 주의 성전을 사모함으로 먼저 자신이 가진 모든 것을 드렸다.
지도자는 항상 하나님께 드리는 일에도 앞장서야 한다.
그 백성들도 기쁨으로 드렸다.
대상 29:14 “나와 내 백성이 무엇이기에 이처럼 즐거운 마음으로 드릴 힘이 있었나이까 모든 것이 주께로 말미암았아오니 우리가 주의 손에서 받은 것으로 주께 드렸을 뿐이니이다.”
백성들도 하나님께 드릴수 있는 물질을 많이 주셨다.
다윗이 시대에 나라도 부강하게 하셨고 백성들도 부요하게 하셨다.
다윗은 자기와 백성들이 주께 즐거이 드릴 마음을 주시고 또한 드릴수 있는 힘을 주신 것을 감격해 했다.
다윗은 물질을 주신이가 하나님이시고 즐거운 마음으로 드릴 힘을 주신 것도 하나님이신 것을 알고 그 은혜에 감격한 것이다.
하나님께서 다윗이 성전 지을 것을 허락지 않고 거절 하실 때 처음에는 이유도 말씀하지 않으셨다.
오랜 후에 말씀해 주시기를 너는 군인이라 피를 많이 흘렸으므로 내 전을 짓지 못한다고 하셨다.
“너는 군인이라” 는 말씀은 다윗이 수없는 전쟁을 통하여 나라를 굳게 세우는 것이 사명이라는 말슴이다.
그의 사명은 성전 건축이 아니라 정복과 싸움이었다. 사람마다 주어진 사명이 다 다르다.
다윗은 그것을 겸허하게 받아드렸다.
그런데 중요한 것은 성전건축이 자기의 사명이 아니라고 해서 마음만 드리고 그냥 손을 놓고 있지 않았다.
그는 자기가 지을수 없는 성전을 위해서 이처럼 많은 물질을 드리고 준비 했었다.
우리가 주님을 사랑하면 주님께 드리고 싶어진다.
주님께 드리고 싶은 마음만 가져도 주님은 기뻐하신다.
주님은 드리고 싶은 마음을 가진 자에게 드릴수 있는 물질도 주시고
드릴수 있는 기회도 주신다.
3. 주님께 드리는 삶이 복 되다
10절 “ 다윗이 온 회중 앞에서 여호와를 송축하여 이르되 우리 조상 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 주는 영원부터 영원까지 송축을 받으시옵소서”
* 주님께 드릴수록 주님을 알게 되고 주님을 알게 될수록 더욱 주님을 송축하게 된다.
다윗은 하나님의 신실하심을 찬양하고 송축했다.
우리 조상 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 하는 것은 신실하신 언약의 하나님을 송축한 것이다.
다윗은 하나님의 위대하심을 송축했다.
11절 “여호와여 위대하심과 권능과 영광과 승리와 위엄이 다 주께 속하였아오니 천지에 있는 것이 다 주의 것이로소이다. 여호와여 주권도 주께 속하였아오니 주는 높으사 만유의 머리시니이다.“
주님께 드리는 자가 진정으로 주님의 위대하심을 뼈저리게 경험하게 된다.
주님을 위해 살수록 주님을 더 알게 해 주시고 주님을 더욱 알수록 주님의 위대하심을 알게 되고 송축하게 된다.
모든 것이 주님으로부터 온 것을 감사했다.
12절 “부와 귀가 주께로 말미암고 또 주는 만물의 주재가 되사 손에 권세와 능력이 있사오니 모든 사람을 크게 하심과 강하게 하심이 주의 손에 있나이다.“
다윗은 모든 것이 하나님의 손에 있음을 고백했다.
그 하나님이 자기를 부요케 하시고 존귀케 하시고 권세와 능력을 주시고 크게 하시고 강하게 하신 것을 고백하고 있다.
다윗은 자신이 경험한 하나님의 위대하심과 하나님의 주인 되심을 가슴 벅찬 감격을 가지고 송축하며 고백했다.
누가 하나님에 대한 가슴벅찬 감격을 느끼며 고백할수 있는가?
하나님을 위해서 자신의 전부를 드린 사람만이 할수 있는 것이다.
* 주님께 드리는 자는 늙도록 복을 누리게 해 주신다.
28절 “그가 나이 많아 늙도록 부하고 존귀를 누리다가 죽으매 그의 아들 솔로몬이 대신하여 왕이 되니라.”
다윗의 생애는 굴곡이 많았다. 고난도 많았고 큰 범죄도 했었다.
그러나 “그가 나이 많아 늙도록 부하고 존귀를 누리다가 ” – 이 한 말씀 속에 그의 인생의 수고와 성공과 실패, 통치, 정복 ,범죄, 회개, 아픔, 비애, 감사, .. 모든 것이 하나님의 은혜의 바다에 용해 된 것을 나타내고 있다.
또한 그의 아들이 이어서 왕이 되었다.
축복과 왕권이 대를 이어갔다.
솔로몬에게만 아니라 그 후손들에게 계속 하나님 나라의 통치권을 유산으로 남기게 되었다.
이 말씀을 읽으면서 묵상하면서 가슴이 뭉클하다.
“그가 나이 많아 늙도록 부하고 존귀를 누리다가 죽으매 그의 아들 솔로몬이 대신하여 왕이 되니라.”
이 말씀이 나의 생애의 결론이 되고 고백이 되기를 바라는 마음으로 같이 해 봅시다.
“다윗이 나이 많아 늙도록 부하고 존귀를 누리다가 죽으매 그의 아들 솔로몬이 대신하여 왕이 되니라.”
다윗 대신에 “내가” 라는 말을 넣어서 같이 읽어보자.
“내가 나이 많아 늙도록 부하고 존귀를 누리다가 죽으매 나의 자녀들이 복을 이어가니라”
다윗이 어떻게 이런 복된 인생을 살수 있었는가?
하나님께 드리는 삶을 살았기 때문이다.

Title: The Life Fully Offered to the LORD is a Blessing
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:10-14
“So David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly; and David said, ‘Blessed are You, O LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone. Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name. ‘But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You.’ ” (New American Standard Bible)
The life fully offered to the LORD is a blessing!
A few decades ago, most children worked very hard at school to be successful so they could make their parents happy. Those children had an internal stability and endurance that is not common among the children in the modern society. The children in the modern world tend to live for themselves and yet they don’t seem to have an internal stability or an endurance to withstand any challenging circumstances.
It’s same in our lives of faith. A few decades ago, we lived for the LORD, and we were willing to die for the LORD. We cried because we were overwhelmed with gratefulness. We cried because we couldn’t contain the joy. We cried with a regret that we didn’t do enough for the LORD. During that time, we endured any discomforts and challenges without expecting anything different. Last few decades, even the lives of Christians have been revolved to expect and demand self-fulfillment in their lives of faith. Now, we have a hard time enduring even a minor discomfort or challenges. We are easily overcome by a minor difficulty.
If the focal point of our lives is to live for our own fulfillment and avoid any discomforts in our lives, we are worshiping ourselves not God. The focal point of Christian lives is the LORD. The whole point of our lives is to serve our heavenly Father in heaven. King David knew this very well. He lived to serve the LORD. He fully offered his life to the LORD. We know very well how much the LORD blessed him. The LORD blessed him and his descendants. The descendants of David became the most significant family line historically and spiritually.
I want to talk about how King David lived to serve the LORD and how God blessed him.
1. Offering our whole heart and soul to the LORD is a blessing
“That the king said to Nathan the prophet, ‘See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within tent curtains.’ ” (2 Samuel 7:2, NASB)
After God made David to be the King, King David was able to live comfortably in the king’s place after conquering all the enemies. David called the prophet Nathan to tell him that he wanted to build the house of the LORD to put the ark of God in it.
David said, “ ‘I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within tent curtains.’ ” (2 Samuel 7:2)
We can see how much David loved the LORD as we read this. If we really love the LORD, we become like this. As we decorate our houses, we are thinking of the house of the LORD. As we are planting a flower around our house, we are thinking of the house of the LORD.
“I’m living in a nice house; is the house of the LORD deteriorating?”
This is love. This ever happened to you?
The prophet Nathan was very pleased with King David’s idea. The tent for the ark of God was built about 500 years ago and during that 500 years, no one suggested building a temple for God. Everyone just expected the ark of God to be in the tent. When the prophet Nathan heard David’s suggestion, he was so excited that he didn’t even think of needing to ask God about it.
“Nathan said to the king, ‘Go, do all that is in your mind, for the LORD is with you.’ ” (2 Samuel 7:3, NASB)
However, God appeared to the prophet Nathan that night to tell him that David cannot build the house of the LORD.
Nonetheless, God received David’s heart toward the LORD.
“But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Because it was in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was in your heart.’ ” (2 Chronicles 6:8, NASB)
When we give our whole heart to the LORD, He receives it. We have experienced the joy of the LORD after giving something to the LORD whole heartily.
“It’s pleasing to Me that it is in your heart.”
“It is pleasing to Me that it was in your heart to give Me something that you worked so hard with your sweat and your blood.”
“It is pleasing to Me that it is in your heart that you surrendered your pride to hold the hands of your brothers and sisters for My Namesake.”
“It is pleasing to Me that it is in your heart that you surrendered your comfortable life to walk the path of tribulations for My Namesake.”
Don’t you think we should be able to move the heart of the LORD this way in our Christian lives?
*When God is pleased, He blesses us with good things.
God was pleased with David's heart and promised His grace toward David. God promised His eternal grace for David, for his country, and for his descendants. It was God’s special promise toward David that was not even given to Moses. That’s why 2 Samuel Chapter 7 is called, “The Chapter of David’s Covenant.” God promised David to be the shepherd and the leader of Israelites. God promised David that He will always be with him and honor his name. As God promised, David’s name is stilled honored even until these days.
God also promised to give grace to the nation of Israel.
David, as a king, worried about the future of his nation. God promised that He would strengthen this nation. God promised a special grace to David’s descendants. God said to David, “I will build a house for you.” God is talking about David’s family line. God was so pleased with David’s heart to build the house of God that God wanted to build a house for David. For this reason, David’s family line became the most significant and the most blessed family line. God told David that his son shall be the king after David, and his son will build the house for the LORD. God also promised David that He will strengthen the nation.
God said, “I’ll be his Father and he will be my son.” At that time, it was impossible to think that God would become a Father. God promised this great and loving grace to the descendants of David.
“ ‘He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men, but My lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.’ ” (2 Samuel 7:13-16, NASB)
Of course, the Father will punish his son if the son commits a sin. The punishment is a part of the love of the Father. The Father will punish His son but he never abandons His son. It is through the angel who predicts the birth of Jesus in the Gospel that the words of David's kingdom will be fulfilled through the Messiah.
“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.’ ” (Luke 1:32-33, NASB)
The kingdom of David stood firm forever and forever through the Messiah who came as a descendant of David. Through God’s grace of heaven, the kingdom of David became the kingdom of eternity. This covenant is so great that it has become the lamp of hope of Israel that never goes out. We have to understand this covenant before we can understand the meaning of the New Testament that begins with “The world of Abraham and the son of David, the son of Jesus Christ.” David was so overwhelmed with gratefulness that he prayed.
“ ‘Now therefore, may it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You. For You, O Lord GOD, have spoken; and with Your blessing may the house of Your servant be blessed forever.’ ” (2 Samuel 7:29, NASB)
I really hope that we can do things for the LORD to move God’s heart this way. When we plan whole heartily to give something to the LORD, God sees our hearts and He is pleased with our hearts.
2. Giving sincere offerings to the LORD is a blessing
“ ‘Now behold, with great pains I have prepared for the house of the LORD 100,000 talents of gold and 1,000,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond weight, for they are in great quantity; also timber and stone I have prepared, and you may add to them.’ ” (1 Chronicles 22:14, NASB)
David didn’t just give his heart to the LORD. He also gave a lot in preparation to build God’s temple. He gave to the LORD during difficult times. Even during the wars, he gave gold and silver for God’s temple. Whenever he won the war, he separated the spoils and offered them for the building of the temple. When we have the heart to give, the LORD provides for us so we can give to the LORD. He also offered his own possessions to the LORD.
“Moreover, in my delight in the house of my God, the treasure I have of gold and silver, I give to the house of my God, over and above all that I have already provided for the holy temple, namely, 3,000 talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and 7,000 talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the buildings.” (1 Chronicles 29:3-4, NASB)
Because David loved God and His temple, he offered everything he had for God’s temple. The leaders should always take the lead in giving to the LORD. The people gave with joy.
“ ‘But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You.’ ” (1 Chronicles 29:14, NASB)
God provided the people for them to give to the LORD. During David’s kingdom, the nation and its citizens were wealthy. David was joyful that God gave him and his people the wealth and willing heart to give to the LORD. David knew that it is God who gave them the wealth and the willing hearts to give to the LORD. He was grateful for God’s grace. When God didn’t allow David to build His temple, God didn’t tell David the reason. After a while, God told David the reason why God didn’t allow David to build His temple. God told David that David shouldn’t build God’s temple because David is a soldier and shed much blood so he shouldn’t build God’s temple.
When God said, “You are a soldier,” to David, God is telling David that his mission in life is to build the strong nation through many wars. His mission in life wasn’t building a God’s temple. God assigns a different mission for each person. David humbly accepted it. Nonetheless, he did everything he could in the preparation to build the temple. It’s the temple that he was not allowed to build but it didn’t keep him from doing what he could to prepare for it.
When we love the LORD, we want to give to the LORD. When we have the heart to give to the LORD, God is pleased with our hearts. God provides for us to give to the LORD when we have the hearts of intention to give to the LORD. God provides us the chance to give to the LORD.
3. The life fully offered to the LORD is a blessing
“So David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly; and David said, ‘Blessed are You, O LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever.’ ” (1 Chronicles 29:10, NASB)
*More we give to the LORD, more we get to know the LORD; more we get to know the LORD, more we get to praise the LORD.
David praised and blessed God’s faithfulness. When David said, “O LORD God of Israel our father,” David is blessed and praised the faithfulness of the LORD. David blessed God's greatness.
“ ‘Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all.’ ” (1 Chronicles 29:11, NASB)
Those who whole heartily give to the LORD truly experience His greatness to the bones. More we live for the LORD, more we get to know the LORD. More we live for the LORD, more we experience His greatness and bless His greatness. I’m grateful that everything is from the LORD.
“Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone.” (1 Chronicles 29:12, NASB)
David confessed that everything is in God’s hand. He confessed that God made him wealthy and honorable. He confessed that God gave him the power to make him great and strong. David whole heartily confessed the greatness of God he experienced in his life with an overwhelmed enthusiasm. He confessed that God is his master and the master of his life. Who can confess the greatness of God with an overwhelming heart of gladness? Only those who give their whole selves to the LORD can do this.
*Those who give their whole selves to the LORD are blessed even when they are old.
“Then he died in a ripe old age, full of days, riches and honor; and his son Solomon reigned in his place.” (1 Chronicles 29:28, NASB)
David’s life had many ups and downs. There were many tribulations. He even committed abominable sins. However, the Bible closes the last chapter of David’s life with a short verse, “Then he died in a ripe old age, full of days, riches and honor.” His labor, success, failure, conquest, sin, repentance, pain, woe, gratitude…all are dissolve into the sea of God’s grace.
Also, his son becomes the king after David. The blessing and the kingship continued with his descendants. The sovereignty of the kingdom of God continued to his descendants beyond king Solomon. As I was reading these verses, I was overwhelmed with a full heart. I hope that the last chapter of my life ends like David’s with the verse like, “Then he died in a ripe old age, full of days, riches and honor.”
Let all of us say this verse out loud together with a hope that it will be the last chapter of our lives, “Then he died in a ripe old age, full of days, riches and honor; and his son Solomon reigned in his place.”
Let us say it again replacing, “He,” with “1.”
“ I died at a ripe old age, full of days, riches and honor; and my children inherited the blessing”
How did King David live the life of blessing?
He lived to offer his life to the LORD.
The life fully offered to the LORD is a blessing!
